Health Tip: Help College Kids Have Healthy Ambition

While you hope that your college student is ambitious, you also want that ambition to be appropriate and not an endless drive for perfection.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that parents:

  • Help combat an unhealthy perfectionist attitude.
  • Encourage the child to focus on empathy, integrity and generosity, and not grades alone.
  • Support what your child is passionate about. Don’t compare your child to anyone else, and praise the positives that make your child who he or she is.
  • Praise your child’s effort, in addition to results.
