Health Tip: Serve up Better Halloween Treats

Halloween may be a sweet-centered holiday, but all of those treats can take a toll on your waistline.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers suggestions for a healthier holiday:

  • Hand out lower-calorie goodies to trick-or-treaters. At a Halloween party, serve up fruit, vegetables and cheese.
  • Plan party games to help kids get some exercise.
  • Clear steps and walkways leading to your home to help make sure no one falls.
  • Keep lit jack-o-lanterns in a safe, sturdy spot away from children and animals. Specifically, keep them away from curtains, walkways and doorsteps.
  • Pay attention and drive safely.
