Healine: Nuts for your Health
Do you have a penchant for peanuts or pecans? Are pistachios your go-to snack?
If you’re nuts about nuts… here’s good news! A new study suggests they may help you live a long, healthy life.
Researchers analyzed 30 years worth of data from two national health surveys that included nearly 119-thousand people.
Nut consumption was calculated from dietary information each participant provided at the beginning, then at 2 to 4 year increments.
Those who ate seven or more servings of nuts per week had a 20-percent lower risk of dying from any cause than those who didn’t eat nuts.
The researchers also found 29 percent fewer deaths from heart disease among regular nut-eaters and an 11 percent lower risk of dying from cancer.
The researchers say more work is needed to determine how this nutrition packed food provides protection.
