Health Tip: Severe Thunderstorm Safety

Severe thunderstorms can damage property, knock over trees and cause flash flooding, says the U.S. National Weather Service. When severe weather strikes, acting quickly is key to staying safe.

During a severe thunderstorm, the weather service urges people to:

  • Stay updated with a local news station or NOAA Weather Radio.
  • Stay away from windows. Do not go to large open rooms.
  • Do not take shelter under a tree or within a shed.
  • Go to a secure location within your home, if possible.
  • Take your pets with you.
